The hike to the falls is an easy 2.2-mile loop, making it ideal for families with young kids. The trail winds through beautiful forested areas and leads to a gorgeous, cascading waterfall that’s perfect for photos. Kids will love splashing in the shallow pools at the base of the falls!

Kilgore Falls

Rocks State Park, Pylesville, MD

If you’re up for a slightly longer drive (about 20 minutes north of Baltimore), Kilgore Falls in Pylesville is a must-see. Nestled in Harford County, this is Maryland’s second-highest vertical waterfall, and the hike to reach it is a quick 1.2-mile round trip. It’s a great spot for families, and the falls create the perfect backdrop for those Instagram-worthy shots. The hike is short, easy, and full of scenic beauty—perfect for little explorers!

The best part? After Labor Day, entrance is free! However, during the busy summer months, reservations are required for parking, so plan ahead if you’re visiting between May and September. Kilgore Falls can get crowded, especially on warm days, so aim for a morning or weekday hike for a more peaceful experience.
